Brugges, Belgium. A definite highlight of our trip.

Not thrilled about another bus trip but C'est la Vie no other option if we want to see something. The staff of Viking has been outstanding make do with the events thrown at them. So far this cruise has been nothing but exceptions so the Cruise Director has had very little sleep trying to keep our iteneraries while dealing with all the travel disruption. So today we are off to Brugges which is a 90 minute ride from where we are docked.

White fries?..

The highlight of the walking tour is to see the Madona and Child by Michalangelo. But the town itself is a medival layout with narrow streets and canals. Several old churches and a wonderful clock tower that centers the town square which was used as a farmers market the day we visited.

And the Belgium waffles are better than they look.

The streets have statues in the corner of the buildings as most people couldn't read in the middle ages so a picture let them know where they are and how to give directions.

So out of place in this medival village and immediately thought of Anthony Torres. Found out it was an antiques store and this was about 20 feet hign in a window over a canal.

We finish the tour in the town center. i am freezing and we want some Belgium Frittes, Beir, and Waffles. We find a delightful little restaurant on the square with a fire in the fireplace. The waiter says we can sit anywhere we like. Joan picks a table by the window and he says we can't sit there. So she moves inside towards the back and he says, you can't sit there. She choses a table by the fireplace and he says...... You can't sit there. Finally at a table in the middle of the room he says You can sit here. And we order a pannini with frittes and I get a Belgium beer. there are two hundred beers on the menu. He asks what I like and I explain I don't like german, I do like dark, not heavy but lite. He brings me a Laffe served in its own special glass as all Belgium beers are. It was delicious. And the Frittes were fantastic served with mayonaise. I also had a vegetable soup as I am chilled to the bone (fair warning of things to come).

A quick stop at the chocalte shop on our way back to the bus.
